JUST THE FAQ'S.
Q. Is this a residence hall or is it an apartment?
A. Lucky101 is a new hybrid concept. It's an apartment within a residence hall. Your student will have full access to all of the University's resources, a carefully managed residence life program, and all of the comfort and privacy of an apartment.
Q. Will my student be able to use the libraries and other academic resources like tutoring and the writing centers if they don't live in the University's residence halls?
A. Yes. They will have full access to all campus-wide programs.
Q. How do I see inside? Are tours available?
A. Yes tours are absolutely available! Please call 877-36-LUCKY toll-free to schedule an appointment.
Q. Do I pay housing fees quarterly or monthly?
A. At Lucky101 you pay 9 installments, starting August 1 and ending April 1. Each installment is due on the first of each month. Your first payment and your security deposit are due before August move in. Late fees are assessed for late payments.
Q. Don't most students live in the UW Residence Halls?
A. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, freshmen aren't required to live in the UW residence halls. We've been managing private housing for freshman for 15 years and in that time we've seen the trend toward living in private housing grow. There were thousands of freshman (about 20%) that chose not to live in the dorms last year.
Q. How big is Lucky101?
A. There are 180-200 freshmen at Lucky101.
Q. What do you do to keep parties to a minimum?
A. At Lucky101 the student to staff ratio is 30:1 so our RAs are available and keeping an eye on the floor. There is also a 24-hour service desk to monitor the general activity in the building. The building is also tobacco and chemical free.
Q. Are rates and room assignments guaranteed?
A. Yes. The process is different at Lucky101 than it is with the University. With us students can apply and hold a space without being locked into an agreement. The "contract" students sign is a legally binding lease that specifically states the room style your student will be living in. Students don't rate which building and room style they want and then hope for the best - they'll be in the best, in the room style they asked for!
Q. You show single rooms as an option in your floorplans. Are they widely available or are there just a few?
A. There are plenty of singles and premium singles available.
Q. What kind of protection measures does Lucky101 take?
A. Lucky101 has security cameras, locking bedroom doors, key card access, a secured front door after hours, a 24-hour service desk, a 30:1 student to staff ratio, fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, sprinkler systems, pull station alarm covers, and fire doors
Q. What about meal plans? Does Lucky101 have a cafeteria?
A. WisCard meal plans are available through the University and Gordon Commons, one of the largest food service dining rooms is right across the street. Since there are also full kitchens in each unit, we do not offer a food service program. Your student can use the WisCard program, prepare their own meals or do a combination of both.
Q. Are you part of the University of Wisconsin-Madison?
A. Lucky101 is a private housing option that is owned and managed by Steve Brown Apartments. We are located on the UW's campus but are not funded or governed by the University. We do however work very closely with the University to ensure that our residents get full access to all campus-wide programs, services and activities.
Q. What if my student signs a lease and doesn't get into the UW-Madison?
A. If they are denied admission they will be released from your lease and all money will be refunded. We will need a copy of the official denial letter for our records.
Q. What if my student decides not to go to the UW-Madison after they sign a lease or if they don't finish the year?
A. We realize circumstances change, but unfortunately once a lease is signed it is a legally binding agreement. The only way to get out of the lease is if another resident, previously approved by the owner, takes over the lease for you.
